In-slab heating & under-tile heating

A home with our floor heating solutions in Melbourne

Floor heating is a term which covers a wide range of heating applications, systems and products. There are a lot of other terms and descriptions commonly used for floor heating concepts – including in floor heating, in-floor heating, underfloor heating, slab heating, in-slab heating, tile heating and under-tile heating.

A lot of these different variations refer to the same general concepts and are basically interchangeable. However there are some heating types and applications which do benefit from differentiation – particularly when prospective purchasers are trying to select the right product for their application.

At P.A.P. we refer to our general range of floor heating (or in-floor heating) solutions – but then draw the distinction between two more specific categories within this range:

1. In-slab heating  and  2. Under-tile heating systems

ins-slab heating

In-slab heating

In-slab heating uses heating cables embedded in a concrete slab floor to provide heating. The slab stores the heat at night and releases it to provide continuous warmth during the day.

Generally in-slab heating systems are considered for new buildings or projects where they can installed when the slab is poured (although they can also be used in renovations and fitted to some existing buildings).

under tile heating

Under-tile heating

Under-tile heating is a floor heating system designed more for existing homes with either cement or timber floors where the heating is provided by in-screed cables.

This type of heating is also known as ‘demand heating’ due to its ability to heat up quickly – which makes it very popular for use in tiled areas – such as bathrooms.

Regardless of the exact floor heating system installed end users value the silent, allergy-friendly operation, economical running costs, comfort and safety.

Floor heating
is often the natural choice for those concerned about air borne allergies and asthma. Floor heating is also a popular choice for nursing homes, child care centres and day spas – where there is a continuous client presence and comfort, health and safety are of the highest importance.

Warmth is evenly distributed from wall to wall due to the heating cables being evenly embedded within the floor. This makes it ideal for children since there are no hot surfaces or dangerous objects to contend with.» more on health benefits of in-floor heating

Zoning for efficiency

Many quality homes and apartments throughout Australia are also enhanced by the unobtrusive presence of P.A.P.Heating Solutions’ superior floor heating products.

To maximise efficiency floor heating should be zoned with each individual zone having separate electronic thermostats (either floor or air sensing). This allows temperature to be adjusted to suit room usage – and create efficiencies that lead to greater savings.

The ELEKTRA VCD and DM twin cable design eliminates the potential for electromagnetic radiation which may be an issue with older single cables in some circumstances.

ELEKTRA VCD and DM cables are also compliant with new electrical wiring regulations AS/NZ3000/2007.
